May 2020 - Always Summer

If it could only be like this always—always summer, always alone, the fruit always ripe.

Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited

I have this quote running trough my head every summer on the grasslands of South Africa. It’s from a book by one of my favourite authors, Evelyn Waugh and it is full of beauty but hints at an end.

Summer always feels like that for me. I start to miss it even before it is over.

Blink and summer has gone. Everyday, a new flower blooms and another dies. The fields are full of colour and birdsong for just a week or two while the black wildebeest dances.

Play the music from the movie - and think of your own summers gone by.
